DON JUAN / LES AMOURS D’ALEXANDRE ET DE ROXANE

Kinneksbond Centre Culturel Mamer
Ballet de l’Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole

Meet the dancers of the Ballet de l’Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole and the musicians of the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra in a new collaboration in homage to Christophe Willibald Gluck.

The story of Don Juan, a herp who defies social, moral and religious rules before being condemned to hell as punishment for his faults, has been a source of fascination and inspiration for many artists. After the writers Molière, Corneille and Goldoni, Gluck was the first composer to set it to music, twenty-six years before Mozart’s opera. His Don Juan, or Le Festin de Pierre, is the first « ballet d’action »  of the repertoire and the precursor of the great ballets of the 19th and 20th centuries. An iconic arrangement that will open with the passionate love story between the Persian princess Roxane and Alexander the Great, some of the most famous characters of Antiquity.
