Competition

A prestigious award for young talent in memory of Anne and Françoise Groben

Sisters Anne and Françoise Groben were among the founding members of the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg. At the initiative of the orchestra’s new artistic director, Jean Muller, and with the agreement of the sisters’ parents, the OCL is creating a prize in their memory as an award for an outstanding figure in the world of music; it will, in addition, provide an exceptional platform to young talents from music-teaching institutions in Luxembourg. The first edition of the competition was organized in June 2017 with the support of the stART-up fund of the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, the BGL BNP Paris, the Rotary Club of Esch-sur-Alzette, Focuna (Luxembourg’s national cultural fund), and the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture.

The Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte uses its role as both facilitator and coordinator of philanthropic actions in Luxembourg to continually identify and provide solutions to still-existing needs within our society. It was the wish of the board of this charity and of the stART-up jury to support the OCL’s ambitious project of organizing, for the first time, a competition for young instrument players and singers to support the young talents emerging from Luxembourg’s schools of music. In the opinion of the stART-up jury, the innovative concept of the competition will encourage and motivate young talents. Through the competition, the pleasure of playing music will be transmitted and strengthened. It will help young musicians to feel part of a community, stimulate their creativity, and thus be crucial in fostering perseverance among these artists.

The Grand Prix Anne et Françoise Groben, a prize of 10,000 euro provided by the stART-up fund, will be awarded to a young instrument player or singer to help develop their career and further their professionalization, and thus corresponds exactly to the goals of the fund.
